Marriage; a beautiful picture of a groom and his bride coming together as one. Built on sacrifice and unconditional love. Where faith and hope are the anchors in times of trouble, where grace and forgiveness cultivate a deeper level of intimacy, and where the two become the best of friends.
The beauty of the wedding day is like that of no other; it’s the joining together of two lives. The families and friends are gathered. The ceremony, the dancing, and, my personal favorite, the food! So many unseen details go into a wedding. With a wedding comes cost and preparation. Not only physically, but spiritually-there is an added level of soul preparation.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” -John 14:1-4
Jesus is getting everything ready for this wedding; for the day where you and I will be joined together with Him. It is the journey that prepares us for the wedding day. In these verses, Jesus first addresses us making sure we are prepared. Then He reassures us that He is also preparing a place for us where we will forever be with Him.
Marriage was God’s plan from the beginning. You don’t marry just anyone; you choose your mate. It is a thought-out, conscious choice on your part. When you say yes to Jesus, He day by day begins to equip you for that wedding where there will be a new heaven and a new earth. Where you will dwell among the Father, and he among you. Where he will wipe away every tear, and sorrow and pain will be no more.
The Bible says that in the last days, God will prepare a feast for us much like that of a wedding. The day where we will, at last, be united with the bridegroom.
So how do you pay for this wedding? You don’t. Jesus paid the ultimate price. He sacrificed himself so that we may one day choose to follow Him, allowing Him to prepare us for the day when we will be joined together with our Father for all eternity.
