The Story

When I was a kid I wanted to be an archaeologist. I’d devour those kid friendly I Witness books, history classes were always the most interesting and Netflix historical documentaries have pretty much revolutionized insomnia ridden nights.

The Bible takes it all to a whole new level. The idea of its oral history, the way the same story is told through different lenses only to come to the same, glorifying conclusion in the end is fascinating.

In the first five books of the Bible we learn the story of the Israelites and how their stories are intertwined with ours thousands of years later. Latch onto that! This early story of theirs is the same story God is telling through us now. We learn that God has elected, redeemed, sanctified, directed and instructed the Israelites then and because we’re to see ourselves through these people we can also believe that God will do the same with us, our children, and generations to come.

And so in this way, their story-their struggles, wanderings, victories-act as pillars for us to stand on. They are echoes in our everyday urging us to keep standing on.
